Product Introduction:

Sodium bisulfite, also called salt bisulfite, is an inorganic substance with the chemical formula NaHSO3. It is a white crystalline powder with an unpleasant smell of sulfur dioxide. It is soluble in water as well as slightly soluble in alcohol, which is easily oxidized to sulfate airborne.

Sodium bisulfite undergoes addition reaction with active aldehydes and ketones to form sodium bisulfite adduct, which can be used to avoid the use of highly toxic HCN in the addition of carbonyl and HCN.

Using sodium hydroxide or sodium carbonate to absorb sulfur dioxide, the reaction is completed under the condition of pH less than 5.5, the concentration is below 34%, and there are by-products obtained from flue desulfurization.

Sodium bisulfite has two main properties, one is reducibility, and the other is addition to carbonyl. NaHSO3 exists in the market, and its main component is sodium metabisulfite Na2S2O5.

Product Usage:

Sodium bisulfite is divided into food grade, industrial grade and pharmaceutical grade.

Food Grade Sodium Bisulfite

  • Food grade sodium bisulfite powder is mainly used as reducing agent, food preservative and bleaching agent, etc.
  • Sodium Bisulfite can be utilized in sweet fruit, sugar, sugar, rock sugar, caramel, sweet, fluid glucose, dried out fruit, dried out vegetables, vermicelli, bamboo fires, mushrooms as well as canned mushrooms, etc. Details are as follows:
  • Bleach (eg candy, pastries, magnolia chips, etc.).
  • Loosening agents (such as bread, biscuits, etc.).
  • Preservatives and fungicides (eg juice, canning, brewing, grain storage, etc.).
  • Antioxidant preservatives (such as golden needle sprouts, seafood, fruits and vegetables, etc.).

Industrial grade sodium bisulfite

  • Industrial grade sodium bisulfite is used as a reducing agent in dyestuff, papermaking, leathermaking, chemical synthesis and other industries.
  • Sodium bisulfite can quench some oxidants such as hypochlorous acid, Oxone, NBS, halogen, etc. in the post-treatment process.
  • It can also be used for the treatment of chromium-containing wastewater and as an electroplating additive.

Pharmaceutical grade sodium bisulfite

  • The pharmaceutical industry is used as an intermediate for the production of analgin and aminopyrine.

Physicochemical Properties of Sodium Bisulfite:

Using sodium hydroxide or sodium carbonate to absorb sulfur dioxide, the reaction is completed under the condition of pH less than 5.5, the concentration is below 34%, and there are by-products obtained from flue desulfurization. NaOH+SO2→NaHSO3

Add sodium hydroxide or sodium carbonate to the liquid Sodium bisulfite, and then absorb the sulfur dioxide to precipitate crystals. After centrifugation and drying at low temperature, an anhydrous (also called sodium metabisulfite) is obtained. 2NaHSO3→Na2S2O5+H2O

Na2S2O5 is generally a white powder, which is usually decomposed little by little, and is accelerated by the action of moisture. 2NaHSO3→Na2SO3+SO2+H2O

Sodium bisulfite has a strong reducing property, and in the case of acid, it decomposes to release sulfur dioxide. NaHSO3+HCl→NaCl+H2O+SO2

The use of sodium bisulfite is roughly the same as that of sodium sulfite. It is usually sold in powder or 34% solution for food preservation (except sesame and beans), bleaching, dyeing, medicine, pulp steamer, straw bleaching, plating Electroplating baths for copper, reducing agents, pesticides, etc.

Is Sodium Bisulfite Safe to Eat?

Is Salt Bisulfite Safe to Eat? Yes, it almost has no damaging results as well as likewise the security has actually been accepted by the U.S. Fda (FDA) as well as European Food Safety And Security Authority (EFSA), as well as the Joint FAO/WHO Specialist Committee on Artificial Additive (JECFA). and That Scientific Committee on Food (SCF).

Sodium Bisulfite Manufactures advises that you adhere to proper safety and security standards and decide on the appropriate salt bisulfite intake.
