The molecular formula of microcrystalline cellulose

Product Overview

Microcrystalline Cellulose

Microcrystalline Cellulose (or MCC) is a partially broken down cellulose derivative that’s been purified. It’s a real workhorse in the pharmaceutical industry. It is made by controlled acid hydrolysis of high-quality alpha cellulose (usually from cotton linters or wood pulp). What is the end result? MCC is a powdery white or off-white color that’s crystalline and porous. It’s also totally odorless. It’s a pretty calm chemical: an inert, polysaccharide with the formula C6H10O5n. It will not dissolve in water, dilute acid, or many organic solvents. However, if it is mixed with water it will form a colloidal solution (think of a smooth, creamy mix). And since it’s super stable and plays nice with almost all active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), it’s used everywhere.

Production & Industrial Status:
MCC is made under super strict GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) rules–this makes sure every batch has the same purity, particle size, and flow properties. Global demand for MCC is strong and growing thanks to the pharma, cosmetic, and food industries. If you’re curious about the suppliers, Look Chemical uses high-tech processing to produce MCC grades that comply with all major pharmacopoeial specifications (such as USP/NF and Ph.

Safety Overview:
The good news is that MCC is non-toxic (it rarely causes allergies) and physiologically inert. It is approved by major regulatory bodies around the world, including FDA, EMA and others, for use as an oral solid medicine. GRAS (Generally recognized as safe) also applies to its use in foods. It’s not surprising that it’s a popular excipient for modern drug formulations, given its high safety rating and versatility.

Packaging Integrity and Supply Chain Reliability

Application

  • Stop fighting with inconsistent hardness and capping. Our Microcrystalline Cellulose delivers exceptional compactibility, binding strength and allows you to increase tablet speed without compromising the structural integrity. This ensures that every tablet contains the same amount of drug, batch after batch. It is a reliable excipient which reduces the rejection rate of your product and keeps your production lines moving.

Want a filler to do more than simply take up space in your room? This Microcrystalline Cellulose is the multi-functional filler you need. It stabilises suspensions in ready to drink formulas, helps prevent caking in powder mixes, and gives the perfect mouthfeel. Clean-label ingredients improve your product’s shelf life and performance.

Achieve premium suspension and texture with confidence. Our MCC gives creams a smooth, non-greasy, luxurious finish. It prevents pigments from settling in liquids and mascaras. This ensures consistent color and application, even after repeated use. Our natural performance driver is a great alternative to expensive synthetics.

Application-Driven Grades and Technical Differentiation

Professional buyers often compare MCC to generic specifications rather than performance grade.

Standard MCC Grades (PH101 / PH102 / PH103 / PH105)
Use in tablets, capsules and granules.

Low-Moisture MCC
Use for hygroscopic APIs or moisture-sensitive ingredients.

MCC High-Density
Increases the flowability of bulk materials and improves their handling in automated systems.

MCC Co-processed (MCC + Starch/ CMC/ Lactose).
The product is designed to improve the flowability and compressibility of complex formulations.

The grade diversity allows customers to customize performance according to the mechanical equipment, formulation, and regulatory market.

Handling & storage

Pharmaceutical and food manufacturers are concerned about the security of their supply chains. Our MCC can be traced and protected through:

1. Paper bags with PE lining in multiple layers (20-25 kg).

2. Packaging that is moisture-tight and prevents caking in global transport.

3. Full documentation per shipment

4. COA, MSDS and TDS. Pharmacopeial Compliance Statements.

5. Production environment aligned with GMP

6. Air-filtered drying and stainless steel contact surfaces are all part of the dedicated cellulose processing line.

7. Global logistics experience

8. Export documentation that is professional, with a stable lead time, validated shipping partners and validated shipping companies.

This ensures that the quality of the product is consistent upon arrival, which is critical for production lines with continuous production.

FAQ

A: Absolutely. Our Microcrystalline cellulose is engineered for exceptional compactibility and bonding strength under high-speed rotary presses. It deforms plastically, creating robust inter-particle bonds that prevent capping and lamination, allowing you to safely ramp up your production rates without compromising tablet integrity.

A: Our MCC acts as a thixotropic stabilizer. It forms a weak, three-dimensional network that suspends active particles uniformly in liquids. This network holds particles in place at rest (preventing settling) but breaks down under shear (for easy pouring/shaking). The result is consistent homogeneity and dosage from the first serving to the last.

A: Our Microcrystalline cellulose is the ideal, label-friendly solution. As a natural cellulose fiber, it absorbs excess moisture and prevents the formation of solid bridges between powder particles. This effectively controls moisture migration and keeps your blends free-flowing, directly replacing silicones or other synthetic anti-caking agents.

A: Yes, definitively. Microcrystalline cellulose modifies the rheology of emulsions. It provides structure and a creamy, luxurious mouthfeel without adding oiliness. It helps stabilize the oil-in-water emulsion and can enhance skin feel by creating a smooth, dry-finish film upon application.

A: We control consistency from the ground up. Starting with a select cellulose source, our hydrolysis and milling processes are tightly controlled. Every batch is validated against over 15 key parameters (particle size distribution, moisture, density, DP). You receive a comprehensive Certificate of Analysis, ensuring the performance you design for is the performance you get, every time.
