Product Introduction:

Manganese sulfate (formula MnSO4, formula weight 151.00), its monohydrate is red orthorhombic crystals, with a relative density of 3.50 and a melting point of 700°C, easily soluble in water and insoluble in ethanol. It exists in various hydrate forms.

Manganese sulphate begins to decompose at 850°C and due to the different degrees of heating it can release SO3, SO2 or oxygen, the residue being manganese dioxide or trimanganese tetraoxide. When manganese sulfate crystal hydrate is heated to 280°C, it loses crystal water and becomes anhydrous.

Manganese sulfate is a trace element necessary for crops that synthesize fatty acids, so it can be used as a fertilizer or applied to the soil to increase production. The addition of manganese sulfate to animal feed has a fattening effect. Manganese sulfate is also a raw material and analytical reagent for the manufacture of other manganese salts. Manganese sulfate is also used in industrial production such as electrolytic manganese, dyes, papermaking and ceramics.

Because it is deliquescent, the scope of application is limited. Manganese sulfate is non-flammable and irritating. Inhalation, ingestion or transdermal absorption is harmful and has an irritating effect. Long-term inhalation of product dust can cause chronic manganese poisoning. Initially, there are mainly neurasthenic syndrome and nerve dysfunction, end-stage tremor palsy syndrome. It is harmful to the environment and can contaminate water bodies.

In addition, manganese sulfate has various hydrates such as manganese sulfate monohydrate and manganese sulfate tetrahydrate.

Physical and chemical properties:

  • Anhydrous manganese sulfate is a white orthorhombic crystal with a density of 3.25 g/cm3 and a melting point of 700°C, and is readily soluble in water.
  • Manganese sulfate monohydrate is a pale pink monoclinic crystal system with a density of 2.95 g/mL (25 °C), a melting point of 700 °C and a boiling point of 850 °C. It is unstable at room temperature and pressure. Easily soluble in water, solubility 5-10 g/100 mL (21°C), insoluble in ethanol.
  • When heated above 200°C, it begins to lose water of crystallization, loses most of the water of crystallization at about 280°C, and becomes anhydrous salt melt at 700°C. It begins to decompose at 850°C, releasing sulfur trioxide, sulfur dioxide, or oxygen depending on various conditions, while the remaining black insoluble manganese tetraoxide decomposes completely at about 1150°C.
  • Manganese sulfate tetrahydrate is soluble in water as translucent pale rose-colored crystals with a density of 2.107 g/mL (25°C).
  • It begins to decompose at 850°C and due to different degrees of heating it can release sulfur trioxide, sulfur dioxide or oxygen, the residue being manganese dioxide or trimanganese tetraoxide. Manganese sulfate can form hydrates containing 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 7 water of crystallization, and when heated above 280°C, it loses all water of crystallization and becomes anhydrous.

The main functions and uses:

  1. In the inorganic industry, it is used in the production of electrolytic manganese and in the manufacture of various manganese salts. It is used in the coating industry as a phosphating agent for metal products, in dryers and in the production of linseed manganese oleate, etc. It is an important trace element fertilizer in agriculture and a catalyst for chlorophyll synthesis by plants. Applying an appropriate amount of manganese sulfate solution can help a variety of economical crops grow and increase yields.
  2. Expected Effects of Manganese Sulfate Seed Dressing: Seed dressing with manganese sulfate solution can increase millet weight and increase yield by 10% to 15%.
  3. Seed dressing method: Before planting, dissolve 0.2 kg of manganese sulfate in 0.9 kg of water, then mix with 50 kg of wheat seeds.
  4. As one of the important trace element fertilizers, it can be used as a basic fertilizer, seed soaking, seed dressing, top dressing, and leaves, so that it can promote the growth of crops and increase the yield.
  5. It can be used as feed additive for livestock and poultry to develop well in livestock and feed industry, and has a fattening effect.
  6. It is also a dryer for handling paints and inks.
  7. It can also be used in papermaking, ceramics, printing and dyeing, ore flotation, electrolytic manganese production raw materials and other raw materials for manufacturing manganese salts.
  8. Also used in batteries, smelting catalysts, analytical reagents, mordants, additives, pharmaceutical excipients, etc.
  9. It is mainly found as a component of various enzymes in the pituitary, liver, pancreas, and bone mitochondria. Manganese participates in the body’s hematopoietic processes, promotes the oxidation of fats in cells, prevents atherosclerosis. A lack of manganese can lead to growth retardation, osteoporosis, and dyskinesia.
