Isoprene, chemical name: 2-methyl-1,3-butadiene, is a conjugated diene with the molecular formula C5H8.

It is a colorless, unpredictable, irritating oily fluid at space temperature level. Insoluble in water, soluble in benzene, soluble in ethanol, ether and also acetone. Forms explosive mixtures with air, the explosion limit is greater than 1.6%.
