Product Introduction:

Bismaleimide (BMI) is another resin derived from the polyimide resin system. Bismaleimide is a bifunctional compound whose active end group is maleimide (MI). The same general method as epoxy resin, has the same fluidity and moldability as epoxy resin, and overcomes the relatively low heat resistance of epoxy resin.

Bismaleimide resin (BMI) has excellent heat resistance, electrical insulation, magnetic permeability, radiation resistance, flame retardancy, mechanical properties and dimensional stability, and adopts the same molding process as epoxy resin . Widely used in aerospace, machinery, electronic equipment, other industrial sectors, advanced composite resin matrix, high-temperature insulation materials, adhesives.

The main properties of Bismaleimide:

  • Heat resistance
    • Because Bismaleimide contains benzene ring and imide heterocyclic ring, it has high crosslinking density and excellent heat resistance of cured product. Tg is generally above 250℃, and the operating temperature range is about 177℃~232℃.
    • Among the aliphatic Bismaleimides, ethylenediamine is the most stable, and the initial pyrolysis temperature (Td) decreases as the number of methylene groups increases. Aromatic Bismaleimide Td is generally higher than aliphatic Bismaleimide Td, of which 2,4. The Td of diaminobenzene is higher than other types.
    • In addition, Td is closely related to cross-linking density. Within a certain range, Td increases with the increase of cross-linking density.
  • Solubility
    • Commonly used Bismaleimide monomers are soluble in organic reagents such as acetone and chloroform, as well as strong polar, toxic and expensive solvents such as dimethylformamide (DMF) and N-methylpyrrolidone (NMP). This is due to the molecular polarity and structural symmetry of Bismaleimide.
  • Mechanical properties
    • The curing reaction of Bismaleimide resin is an addition polymerization reaction, which does not release small molecular by-products during the molding process and is easy to control. Because the cured product has a compact structure and few defects, Bismaleimide has high strength and modulus.
    • However, due to the high crosslinking density of the cured product and strong molecular chain rigidity, BM1 is very brittle, has low impact strength, low elongation at breaking point, and low fracture toughness G1c (<5J/m2).
    • Poor toughness is the main obstacle for Bismaleimide to adapt to high-tech requirements and expand new application areas. Therefore, how to improve resilience is one of the key technical factors that determine the application and development of Bismaleimide.
    • In addition, Bismaleimide has excellent electrical properties, chemical resistance and radiation resistance.

Bismaleimide use:

  • Bismaleimide is used in the manufacture of electrical insulating materials, wear-resistant materials, reinforced plastic additives, grinding stone adhesives, etc.
  • Bismaleimide can be used to make rubber crosslinking agent, aerospace structural materials, aerospace structural materials, functional materials, etc. Used in the manufacture of electrical insulating materials, wear-resistant materials, reinforced plastic additives, grindstone bonding agents, etc.
