Product Introduction:
Colorless to yellowish oily liquid. Has a strong pungent odor. Boiling point 165°C. Miscible in ethanol and ether, very insoluble in water. Can become a red resin in the air.
Obtained by heating an alcohol solution of acetone acetone and ammonia sealed in a tube. Obtained by the reaction of pyrrole magnesium bromide with iodomethane.

2,5-Dimethyl-1H-pyrrole Uses:
Organic synthesis intermediate.
Used in ethylene polymerization to produce hexene-1.
Heat 2,5-hexanedione and ammonium carbonate together until the bubbling stops, which takes about 1-1.5 hours, then slowly reflux at 115°C for half an hour, cool, and separate the upper layer, i.e. 2,5-dimethylpyrrole. The lower layer of the above reactants is extracted with chloroform, and a portion of the product can also be recovered. The crude product is distilled under reduced pressure, and the fractions at 51-53°C (1.07kPa) or 78-80°C (3.33kPa) are collected to obtain the finished product. The yield is 81-86%.
